About us

Where it all began

Richard George founded the firm around 1904, initially trading under his own name. He was later joined by H.L.D. Jenkins, and together they formed Richard George & Jenkins. The firm began operations from Old Bank Chambers, High Street, Newtown, where it has remained an ever-present name on the Newtown High Street. As a rural practice in Mid Wales, the firm quickly gained recognition in the local legal community. It built a strong foundation in conveyancing, probate, and various types of litigation, including criminal advocacy in the local Magistrates’ Court. The firm also handled cases in the Industrial Tribunal, High Court, and County Court.

1970s-1980s

After the passing of H.L.D. Jenkins in the mid-1970s, Glynne Jones took over the firm. In February 1979, Michael Davies joined the practice and became a partner in 1980, expanding the firm’s litigation department. Huw Evans joined the firm shortly after, specialising in conveyancing matters. Huw Evans would later become a partner and remained an integral part of the firm until his retirement in 2020.

During this period, the firm broadened its reach by acquiring Charles W. Bell and Co, a well-established sole practitioner firm in Welshpool, and briefly operated an office in Machynlleth. In the late 1980s, Geoff Landers joined as a partner and took responsibility for managing the Welshpool Office.

1990s

By 1992, Sian Davies had joined the firm, initially focusing on probate work and later specialising in general litigation, particularly family matters. Following Glynne Jones' retirement in 1993, Michael Davies became the Senior Partner. 1993 also saw Nicholas Jones begin his training contract and following its completion he remained with the Practice as a Solicitor. In 1999, the firm underwent a change in structure when the partnership of Michael Davies, Huw Evans, and Geoff Landers dissolved. Michael Davies and Huw Evans continued as partners in Newtown, while Geoff Landers became a sole practitioner at the Welshpool Office.

2000s

At the end of 2001, Nicholas Jones left the firm. In 2002, Geoff Landers rejoined the firm as a solicitor, taking over Nicholas Jones' role. In 2005, John Hollis joined the firm as a consultant, taking on non-contentious probate and conveyancing work after Sian Davies' departure. When John Hollis retired in 2010, he was succeeded by Carol Bryan, who continued as a consultant until 2015. In 2012, Jonathan Crosskey joined the firm as a solicitor, focusing on probate, conveyancing, and general litigation, particularly family matters.

2017

Matthew Davies, who had been working on an ad hoc basis as a Police Station Representative, began his training contract.

2018

A significant milestone came in 2018, when the firm opened a new office in Llanidloes, with Christopher Davies, Solicitor, joining to head the branch.

In 2019, Matthew Davies was admitted as a Solicitor.

2020

In 2020, Huw Evans retired from the partnership, and Matthew Davies became a partner. During this year, the firm also saw Jonathan Davies and Callum Breese begin their training contracts, with Jonathan Davies having been previously employed as Office Manager and Callum Breese as a paralegal.

2021-2022

In 2021, Jonathan Davies and Callum Breese began their training contracts. By the end of 2022, both Jonathan Davies and Callum Breese were admitted as solicitors. Chloe Harries began her training contract in late 2022. During this period, Jonathan Crosskey left the firm as he transitioned away from private practice.

2023

The firm continued to expand in February 2023 with the opening of a third office in Aberystwyth. The firm’s growth accelerated in June 2023, when it acquired the criminal department from Lanyon Bowdler, opening a new office in Shrewsbury. This acquisition saw Kim Roberts, Adrian Roberts, Clare Stephens, and Charlotte Gregory join the firm. The acquisition prompted the firm’s transition from a partnership to a Limited Company, operating under the new name Richard George & Jenkins Limited. The conversion did not affect the day-to-day running of the firm, and the firm continues to be regulated by the Solicitors Regulation Authority.

In July 2023, Huw Evans retired after nearly 40 years of service with the firm.

2024

In 2024, the firm saw the beginning of new training contracts with Bethany Wood and Ellis Hawthorn, who had both been working as paralegals at the firm. This year also marked the departure of Charlotte Gregory from the firm as she pursued a career in lecturing law.

2025

In March 2025, Chloe Harries successfully completed her training contract and was admitted to the roll of solicitors.

This marked another important milestone in the firm’s history, with the firm now consisting of eight qualified solicitors and two trainee solicitors.
